The Path of Change

Everywhere you go, brokenness seems to be grasping for the soul of humanity, whether rich or poor, black or white, old or young. Some are in a marriage crisis and want to get better, but they can’t find a path to wholeness. Others are stuck in a sin pattern, seemingly unable to make a change for the better. Many Christians can even get stuck in their spiritual journey and need freedom to move forward.

We are all broken in one way or another—body, soul, and spirit—and we need the healing touch of a Savior. Jesus is the One who can lead us out of brokenness into wholeness. But for Him to do so, we have to make some changes in our lives and choose to put our faith and trust in Him to help us get unstuck.

Growing up is a hard business; it’s a heart business. If we don’t change, we won’t grow up to be like Jesus. Our immaturity always impairs our productivity. Our sinfulness detracts from our fruitfulness.

John Maxwell once said, “People change when they hurt enough that they have to, learn enough that they want to, and receive enough that they are able to.” Many of us only change when things get desperate or during a time of crisis.

Before we can change, God must break through our defenses so He can get to the heart of the matter. Defensiveness prevents life change, which only occurs if we listen and surrender. God wants full access to our hearts, but our protective layers keep Him and others from helping with our heart issues. Instead of being defensive, we need to surrender to God by admitting a willingness to change.

Along with this, you can acknowledge the brokenness that you don’t know how to change. Admit that you need God’s help and ask Him to lead you to the path of change! Then trust that He will help you in this process.

Pay whatever price it costs for maturity; it’s worth it!
